As well as strategy planning, I also consult for a Marketing Management consultancy called TrinityP3.
In 2020 they piloted a Marketing Mentor program that is now rolling out.
At a time when the world was turned upside down by Covid-19, it was an opportunity to help connect the marketing world. And over the long term, it’s an opportunity for inspirational mentors to impact up-and-comers in the industry.
Some people confuse mentoring with coaching. They’re actually quite different.
I see coaching as more about getting someone to a specific goal – which is more about measuring performance.
Whereas mentoring is more advisory in nature – sharing wisdom. Taking a more holistic approach to someone’s career and offering tips and advice where appropriate based on questions or challenges that a mentee may have.
For me, mentoring is more about listening and encouraging. And tends to transcend the career focus only.
Who can be a mentor?
The program is open to anyone currently working in the marketing, media, and advertising profession in Australia or New Zealand. On submitting your details to indicate your interest, you will be invited to join the mentoring program based on your expertise and experience and your category specialty. This right is reserved to ensure we maintain the optimum balance within the program.
Who can be a mentee?
Anyone currently working in the marketing, media and advertising profession in Australia or New Zealand. The program is not open to full-time students in marketing degrees but is open to those studying part-time and working in a marketing role. Again, on submitting your details to indicate your interest, you will be invited to join the mentoring program based on your expertise and experience and your category specialty.
Fully flexible
The program is designed to be fully flexible. As a mentor, I could arrange the frequency and length of sessions with my mentee based on what suited her.
We also conducted sessions via Zoom on a weekly basis for 2 months. But again, it’s up to you to decide on what suits you both best.
Is there any cost involved in participating?
There is no cost for mentors, other than your time, to participate in the mentor program. For mentees, there is a membership fee to belong to the Marketing Mentors community. This fee is to cover administration and technology cost and is less than one dollar a day. This can be paid by credit card as either $300 per year or $30 per calendar month.
